Visit a farm for free in June!

Every year on the nearest Sunday to the 9th June, hundreds of working UK farms open their gates to the public free of charge, for Open Farm Sunday, giving everyone the chance to discover real farming at first hand.
It’s a brilliant opportunity to take the kids to see real farming in action, to meet the people who work on the land, see animals and farm machinery up close and gain more of an understanding of the role of farming in all our lives. Especially at the moment when farming is so much under threat.

I firmly believe that every primary school should organise an annual farm visit for the Year 4, 5 or 6 pupils so that every child has had the opportunity to experience where our food comes from and how, and to understand the connect between people and land, food and farmers, nature and health.
This brilliant endeavour ensures that if your child’s school doesn’t provide a farm visit, or if you home educate, there is an opportunity for everyone to see farm life in action.
Reasons to visit a working farm?
- Find out what it means to be a farmer
- Learn the story of food and food production
- Find out about countryside management
- Discover how farming affects our lives
- Find out what really happens on a farm
- Experience machinery displays, tractor and trailer rides, demonstrations, nature walks and more, dependent on what your local farm has to offer.

Such a great initiative. There is so much to learn about life on a farm and with a farm day visit like this it can make learning fun in the best possible way enjoying the outdoors. Some of those big tractors put our little ones to shame!
Thank you for sharing on #CountryKids
