Phew, it’s been quite a week at Kids of the Wild, catching up with reviews after a bit of blog neglect over the summer! We’re in need of some outdoor adventure fun.

Earlier in the year we were sent a fabulous Reima Roxana kids winter jacket for Caroline to try out and review. Unfortunately it arrived just after The Beast from the East had returned home, and with the crazy heatwave since then there’s not been much need of it.

However, now it’s back to school week, it’s a great time to be thinking about buying a waterproof winter coat for your wild kids, and I can’t recommend the Roxana enough.

It’s warm and waterproof for using on the school run and for rainy playtime, and it’s an excellent ski jacket too, complete with snow skirt around the waist. We wish we’d had it for our winter adventures with night sledging and snowy camp fires!

Quality Outdoor Jacket

Like the other Reima clothing we have, the Roxana is really well made, durable and cleverly thought through to make it as comfortable and easy for kids to wear as possible.

It’s got everything you’d expect in an adult jacket, not often seen in children’s sizes. And yet again with Reima, we love the colourful, funky, geometric pattern of the Reimatec® fabric.

Breathable, Waterproof, Windproof

The Reimatec® fabric is finished with a fluorocarbon-free water and dirt repellent and will keep kids warm in temperatures down to -20 degrees. It’s washable at 40 degrees and amazingly can be tumble dried low.

All seams are sealed and somehow they’ve designed really easy to slide zips – I get so fed up with kids not being able to do up their own zips. None of that with the Roxana.

Pockets

The Roxana has 3 external zip-up pockets including one on the sleeve for a ski pass and two internal pockets, one velcro-fastening, the other mesh for ski goggles.

If you’ve read about the ReimaGO activity sensor this coat has a clever insert in one pocket where you can connect the sensor to record activity even in the rain and snow. A great addition.

It’s currently a size too big for Caroline (lots of growing room). She says it feels a little bulky right now though I’m sure the correct size wouldn’t be like this. She’ll get lots of use from it in the cool north-east this autumn and winter.

She particularly likes the easily removable hood and the smooth zips. I think the high neck is a genius idea and will save a lot of tears during snowball fights!

Pros

  • Funky geometric patterned fabric
  • Tumble dry

Also brilliant for rainy school run days are BOGS waterproof boots – like wellies but easy to get on and off so they’re great for wearing to school and slipping off in the cloakroom. For more details read my BOGS boots review.
